Last week, SOS had the pleasure of hosting Shaun Robinson (yes, THAT Shaun Robinson from 90-Day Fiance Tell-All) for a digital event.
But she wasn't with us to talk about reality star drama.
She taught us about the people and organizations that need help from professionals like us, and how we can get involved.
Robinson founded The S.H.A.U.N Foundation for Girls, which supports small charities that are doing work in five key areas of girls' issues: (S)TEM, (H)EALTH, (A)RTS, (U)NITY, and (N)EIGHBORHOODS.
"Who has time for anything else outside of work, life, and family?" you might ask yourself.
But, like self-care, volunteerism and philanthropy can have significant value to your career and community, provided you choose the cause and Board wisely.

As Shaun pointed out, if you're seeking a non-profit Board role, be sure you have a true passion for the organization's mission, do your homework on what they expect from you (time, financial contributions, etc.), and commit to your role.
What do you get in return?
The sheer joy of knowing you've improved the lives of others. Giving is good for your health! The U.S. has about 2M registered non-profits, so you're bound to find an organization that aligns with your interest.
An expanded circle of people who share your philanthropic passions.
A robust new skill set. Board roles allow you to flex your organizational and leadership muscles and skills you may not be getting in your "day job."
As we enter the holiday season, think about where your talents and funds could do the most good for the causes and populations you care about.
