Reboot Yourself

Like our phones and tablets, a reset is often critical to our well-being.

As women, we often juggle work and other responsibilities and tend to put ourselves far down on the priority list.

Just when we think our lives are "under control," something (a family issue, major business crisis, or health concern) hits us that stresses us out and throws our plans off-course.

So, when you hear the term "self-care," you may roll your eyes and cynically snort.

After all, you really can't drop everything each week and run away to a resort spa.

But you CAN adopt any or all of these practices to ensure you don't "unravel" while caring for everyone else.

5 Simple Self-Care Hacks

  1. Put "relax" on your calendar the same way you would a meeting. Use that time to meditate, take a short walk, journal, or indulge in a hobby, or exercise. Tech nerd that I am, I find that learning a new AI skill (like the one I used to create the graphics in this post) can be both creative and relaxing.

  2. Turn off your electronic devices an hour before you sleep and, if possible, pick up a book or listen to music instead.

  3. Plan a simple staycation or an afternoon at a local spa if you can't get away for vacation.

  4. Take one "me day" a month or every six weeks, when you delegate your responsibilities and "vanish" from your day-to-day life. I used to do this when I had a stressful corporate job and family responsibilities, and looking forward to that day helped me get through the tough times.

  5. Call a trusted friend or family member and, depending on your needs, either have a fun, uplifting conversation or work on a problem holding you back.

Self-care is different from selfishness. When you're being selfish, you have little regard for others, while self-care means taking care of your well-being without harming those around you.

When you make time for your own needs, it ultimately leads to better relationships at work and home. You'll bring your best self to your environment.

If you CAN get away this spring, please join us for this terrific retreat, which combines self-care with community and inspiration.
