Rethinking Rejection: Why Knowing “No” Can Make All the Difference

Manel

Acclaimed speaker and author Andrea Waltz offers a paradigm shift in the way women view rejection and argues that“failure” is important to success.

[Los Angeles, California] — No one likes to be rejected. We’re practically hard-wired to avoid pain and most people don’t go seeking out failure and disappointment. But what if those natural instincts are actually inhibiting our success?

In her popular book Go for No, author Andrea Waltz makes the argument that hearing “no” is a natural byproduct of being ambitious. In fact, she says, the path to “yes” is often lined with many, many “nos.” Still, becoming comfortable with rejection is easier said than done—especially for women, who tend to be more risk-averse than their male counterparts.

“Logically we all understand that rejection is a part of business and life. But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hold many women back from reaching their goals,” Waltz said.

By reframing rejection not only as a necessary evil but actually as valuable in and of itself, Waltz aims to empower women to overcome the fear of failure. She equips them to have the mindset they need to take bold strides in the right direction—whether that’s in the context of a sales environment, leadership, or some other business endeavor.

“In today’s competitive landscape, you can no longer afford to sit back and wait to be chosen. You need to learn to have the courage to ask for what you want and a willingness to fail,” Waltz said.

Waltz will address Society of Saleswomen members in an interactive event titled “Go for No.” It is one in a series of monthly virtual events designed to equip female and female-supportive members to grow and learn from one another. The session is free to all SOS members and will take place September 22, 2021, from 6 to 7 p.m. PST. Not a member? Join us.
